K. Satchidanandan

Koyamparambath Satchidanandan (born May 28, 1948 in Pulloot, Kerala ) is an Indian poet who wrote his works in Malayalam and English . He was also known for his secular and anti- caste views.

life and work

K. Satchidanandan earned a Masters in English from Kerala University and a PhD in Post-Structuralist Theory from Calicut University in Kerala. He taught English at Christ College at Calicut University for 25 years. After a successful academic career, he became editor of the English-language literary journal of the National Literature Academy of India (Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi). In recognition of his extensive and innovative work, he was unanimously elected Secretary General of the Saitya Akademi India in 1996.

The nationally and internationally known Indian poet represents the modern poetry of India in Malayalam. His contributions to literary criticism and theory (in English and Malayalam) received great attention. He has dealt intensively with Indian and Western poetry concepts and excelled as an interpreter of new literary movements in Indian literatures
