The Sathyamangalam Wildlife Sanctuary ( Sathyamangalam Wildlife Sanctuary ) is a nature reserve on the border of the states of Tamil Nadu , Karnataka and Kerala in southern India . The area was originally a forest reserve ( Sathyamangalam Forest Division ) and was declared a wildlife sanctuary on December 8, 2008. The protected area is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and extends from 10 ° 29'15 "to 11 ° 43'11" north latitude and from 76 ° 50'46 "to 77 ° 27'22" east longitude.
flora
Due to its location between the Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats , it occupies an important strategic position in connecting the two natural landscapes. The terrain is varied by plains, hills and river valleys. The average annual rainfall is 800 mm. The vegetation consists mainly of deciduous dry forests , at higher altitudes also of evergreen forests.
fauna
The sanctuary is home to the Bengal tiger and the Asian elephant . In addition, larger stocks arrive Axishirschen , Sambarhirschen , Gauren , blackbuck , langur , giant squirrel and smaller stocks of four horn antelope and wild pigs before. The marsh crocodile occurs in the Moyar River , which flows through the area .
