Satire Wiki

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A satire wiki is an online encyclopedia based on Wikipedia in terms of technology and functionality, with the aim of making readers and writers enjoyable . Satire wikis make use of the means of parody by imitating Wikipedia in their external appearance, but using their respective ideas of humor in terms of content.

functionality

Editors and users

The wiki system allows every user to write articles and contributions and to change texts without having to register. However, disputed articles can be partially or completely blocked. Each page has a talk page on which every user can make suggestions or comments. Controversies about an article will therefore always be posted on its discussion page.

In every wiki system there are regular users who are of particular importance and who often have special rights vis-à-vis other users: They instruct “newbies”, monitor compliance with the guidelines and try to maintain the quality of the satire wiki or increase. As a rule, they spend a lot of time on their hobby and identify with “their” wiki accordingly. Occasional users represent the majority of the registered users; they only make sporadic contributions, which are nevertheless sometimes perceived as very successful. - Users who are not logged in are problematic, as they often attract attention through vandalism and “trolling” behavior (see Troll (network culture) ).

Principles

Every wiki has certain principles on which the collaboration of the respective users is based. What all satire wikis have in common is that they retain the external form of an encyclopedia , which offers apparently serious, sometimes obviously not serious information. Furthermore, all satire wikis are careful to strictly comply with applicable law (especially copyright ) in order to protect themselves from legal action by others. Because of this, the regular users of a satire wiki spend some of their time identifying and removing unwanted posts.

It is also important to adhere to the netiquette . However, there are also different customs here that have arisen depending on the orientation of the satire wiki. There are often areas where users verbally abuse and abuse each other for fun. It is sometimes very difficult to assess the seriousness of a contribution.

construction

A satire wiki is similar in structure to that of Wikipedia (as the “norm” for a successful wiki system), but differs from it in details. Basically there are different groups of websites: The most important one is the “article namespace” with the encyclopedic articles, the actual content of a wiki. There is also a wiki namespace with help pages and instructions. Registered users have a user page in the user namespace that they can freely design. The associated discussion page is used for "conversations".

Content

Due to the fact that people understand very different and contradicting things by humor , there are also several satire wikis with different demands, specifications and content. Even within a satire wiki there are (similar to Wikipedia) articles and other articles that differ greatly in terms of quality and quantity and reflect the plurality of article writers.

The German-speaking satire wikis agree that contributions with racist, violence-glorifying or similar content are undesirable. Such articles are removed immediately in the event of an obvious violation of the rules, otherwise after a deletion discussion. Like any satire, satire wikis are tense between freedom of expression and consideration for other people, which repeatedly leads to lively discussions within the wiki communities. Some people who speak other languages are, however, more tolerant (e.g. Uncyclopedia in English) or even use it specifically as a form of humor (e.g. ED ).
