The saddle spot anemonefish ( Amphiprion polymnus ) belongs to the damselfish (Pomacentridae). It differs from all other anemonefish by its broad saddle point below the dorsal fin.
It lives in the coral reefs of the South China Sea and in the waters around the island world of Indonesia , the Philippines , Taiwan , the Ryūkyū Islands , New Guinea , the Solomon Islands , and the Australian Northern Territory .
Amphiprion polymnus becomes up to 12 centimeters long.
He accepts two types of symbiotic anemones as partners.
- The leather anemone ( Heteractis crispa )
- The carpet anemone ( Stichodactyla haddoni )
Specimens that live in symbiosis with the leather anemone are mostly melanistic . Only the white stripes and the white drawing of the caudal fin are still present.
