The Sattelmühle is a hamlet that belongs to the local community of Esthal in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Dürkheim . It is a listed building .
location
The Sattelmühle is located in the Palatinate Forest in the Elmstein Valley on the Speyerbach .
estate
The saddle mill in its current form was built as a mill property in the 18th century. From this a hamlet developed into the 20th century, to which residential buildings, farm buildings, a villa and a former restaurant belong.
history
In 1928 the hamlet had six residential buildings with a total of 21 residents. The Catholics belonged to the parish of Esthal, the Protestants to that of Lambrecht (Palatinate) .
traffic
In 1902 a stump track was put into operation that led from the Lambrecht (Pfalz) station to the Sattelmühle. The track was later extended to Elmstein , opened in early 1909 and called the Kuckucksbähnel . The former Sattelmühle freight loading point became the Sattelmühle-Esthal station. The name comes from the fact that it also served the core town of Esthal, which is around three kilometers to the west. It was later renamed Esthal . Passenger traffic ceased in 1960 and freight traffic in the late 1970s. The Kuckucksbähnel has been operated as a museum railway since 1984 .
