Farmer with boar

Saubär , Bär or Bän is a term in the Upper German-speaking area, especially in Swabian , Bavarian and Austrian, and describes the uncastrated male domestic pig ( boar ) intended for breeding , while most male piglets are intended for fattening and therefore already in the first Days of life to be castrated . In earlier times, the Saubär enjoyed a special legal status: Since the entire village community was dependent on a breeding boar, they also had to tolerate it if he (if he broke out) damage e.g. B. in gardens.

The word was already described in the Economic Encyclopedia (1773-1858) by Johann Georg Krünitz . It is etymologically close to English boar [ bɔːɹ ], German ' wild boar , boar' as well as the German word Borg 'cut boar'.

The term is also used in a figurative sense for males as a swear word . The swear word is mostly viewed and used as moderately violent. Filthy bastards and wild boars are considered forms of increase here .
