Sava Paşa

Sava Paşa ( Greek Ιωάννης Σάββας Πασάς Ioánnis Sávvas Pasás , * 1832 in Yanya , Ottoman Empire ; † 1904 ) was an Ottoman statesman and doctor of Greek origin and Christian faith.

Life

Sava Paşa was born as the son of the doctor Sava Efendi from Yanya (now Ioannina, Greece) and graduated from the Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane Grand Medical School . Between 1870 and 1875 he was the Mutessarif (local governor ) of İsfahya ( Crete ). On May 27, 1874 he became director of the Mekteb-i Sultani in Istanbul .

From February 1877 to May 1878 he was governor of the Vilâyet Cezayir , between June and December 1878 he was governor of Eastern Rumelia . In December of the same year he became Minister for Housing of the Ottoman Empire and was given the title of Pasha . In October 1879 he became Foreign Minister, after he held this office until July 1880, he was again Minister for Housing. Between June 1885 and January 1887 he was governor of Crete . From 1889 he lived in Neuilly-sur-Marne and died in 1904.
