The Savage Glacier is a glacier at the eastern end of Thurston Island off the Eights coast of West Antarctic Ellsworthland . It flows south of the Tierney Peninsula east to Seraph Bay .
It was discovered in February 1960 during helicopter flights from the USCGC Burton Island and the USS Glacier as part of the United States Navy research trip to the Bellingshausen Sea . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1960 after Lieutenant John Savage, dental officer aboard the USS Glacier , who helped set up geodetic checkpoints in the area.
