Savoy is a Norwegian-American band, founded in 1994 by Pål Waaktaar-Savoy (guitarist and songwriter from a-ha ), his wife Lauren Savoy and drummer Frode Unneland and then bassist Greg Calvert, who left the band in 1997. It was founded at a time when a-ha was taking a break. Musically, Savoy has a more earthy indie rock style compared to a-ha. Paul Waaktaar-Savoy and Lauren Savoy write all the songs themselves.

The band celebrated successes especially in Norway , among others with the songs Velvet (later also recorded by a-ha on the album Minor Earth, Major Sky ) and Star . The band has sold a total of 200,000 albums to date. The first album Mary Is Coming and the single Velvet released from it both received gold in Norway in 1996. Savoy received the Norwegian Spellemannprisen in the pop group class in 1999 for the album Mountains of Time and in 2001 for the album Reasons to Stay Indoors .
