Scabellum

Scabellum , Latin ; Greek krupalon, krupezon, was a foot rattle in antiquity , which consisted of two wooden or metal plates connected to one another at the heel part , which were worn on the right foot like a sandal . A pair of smaller cymbals were often attached between the two plates . The conductor used the scabellum to mark the beat.

Mostly the instrument was played to accompany facial dances in the ancient theater .
