Scammonin I is a chemical compound from the group of glycosides . It is the main constituent of the milky sap of the root of the Convolvulus scammonia plant (oriental physic binders), which was previously used as a laxative, and the jalape (Mexican physicuric binders). The compound has also been detected in other plants. In addition to scammonin I, several other similar compounds were identified in the extract.
