The United States Geological Survey mapped it using its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1966 after Lieutenant Glenn Nelson Drummond Jr. (1921-2009), assistant zoerologist with the support units of the US Navy in Antarctica from 1959 to 1962.
