Scarborough Castle is a 30 m high ledge with vertical flanks on the north coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises near the northeast entrance to Shirreff Cove .
The British seal hunter Robert Fildes (1793-1827) mapped the rock in 1821 and named it after Scarborough Castle in North Yorkshire because of the similarity of its shape .
