The shepherd's staff is a common figure in heraldry . This heraldic figure is an approximately head-high wooden stick with a functional part that the shepherds use to grab a sheep or to drive them by throwing sand for stray animals. In the coat of arms , the shepherd's staff with a small shovel and a rounded hook with the open side pointing to the long handle (functional part). The staff is emblazoned as fallen if this important part points to the base of the shield . The tinging allows all heraldic colors taking into account the field color .

The heraldic figure in the escutcheon is not common.

It should be noted that the crook and the pilgrim's staff only combine the term shepherd's staff with this staff.

The shepherd's staff is also considered a symbol of St. Wendelin / Wendalinus, a Catholic saint and also of all shepherds or shepherds.
