The Schönauer Teich is a body of water in the cadastral community of Schönau bei Litschau in the municipality of Litschau in the northern Waldviertel in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria . The water was created by damming the Reissbach (formerly Mühlbach) for the pond management common in the northern Waldviertel .

The Schönauer pond has a total area of 10 hectares.

history

The Schönau pond was probably created in the 16th century together with that of the Herrenteich (today Herrensee) in nearby Litschau. In contrast to the history of the new conception of the Litschauer Hofmühle in the 16th century, the concrete genesis of that in neighboring Schönau is uncertain; It is only certain - in the Dominical version of 1751 - that the stately mill in Schönau, which was operated by the outflow from the Herrenteich, also had six gears, two of which were designed as saws. There are great parallels to Litschau from the overall complex; Here, too, the existing course of a brook - namely the Mühlbach (now Reissbach), the foothills of the Litschauer Mühlteich - was used as the starting point for the creation of a pond, at whose outlet a large mill was built. In addition to its function as an energy store, the Schönauerteich was also used for fish farming; In 1751 he was 24Shock fish occupied. The predecessors of the large six-course mill are mentioned in documents in 1369, 1528 and 1541.
