history

In 1599, glass manufacturer Hans Kürschner acquired the existing glassworks from the Hobelsberg glassworks near Grainet . In a document from 1602, Kürschner is referred to as "Hüttenmeister zum Schönprun". When he died, his widow married a glassworker from the Poschinger family . From 1617, the glassworks remained in the possession of the Poschinger family for several generations. The Hilz family came here by marriage around 1681, and the Schönbrunner Hütte remained in their possession until 1830.

Schönbrunn, which belonged to the Wolfstein district court in the Passau monastery until secularization in Bavaria , formed an independent Bavarian community from 1818 onwards. In 1837 a Mr. Rast from the Upper Palatinate took over the glassworks. Gradually, glass production declined. Most recently she supplied sheet glass in particular for the Raimundsreuter reverse glass painting. In 1876 the glass furnaces were finally shut down and the facility fell into disrepair. A school was built in 1871 and a school in Schönbrunn in 1893.

In 1905 the former caretaker's house and its outbuildings fell victim to a fire, with which the last visible signs of the former Schönbrunn glassworks disappeared. The branch , which had existed since 1930, was raised to the parish of Schönbrunn am Lusen on March 19, 1941. The community of Schönbrunn am Lusen, which belonged to the Wolfstein district until its dissolution in 1972, became part of the Hohenau community on January 1, 1978 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . The Schönbrunn school was most recently part of the Georg von Pasterwiz elementary and middle school in Hohenau.
