Schülerhilfe is a brand of ZGS Bildungs-GmbH based in Gelsenkirchen . In addition to the study group, it is one of the leading providers of tutoring in Germany and Austria.

Since 1974, Schülerhilfe has been offering tutoring in small groups of one to five students in all common subjects, for all classes and types of school. At around 1,100 locations, it supports over 100,000 schoolchildren annually and offers tuition, exam preparation courses and vacation courses. Student Aid has also been active as a franchisee since 1983: 66 percent of the company's tutoring schools are run by franchise partners.

history

Schülerhilfe was founded in 1974 by high school graduates Jürgen Birkner and Jürgen Gratze in Gelsenkirchen. In 1983 the first franchise student aid was established in Soest, the first student aid in Austria opened in 1988. In 1998 Jürgen Birkner and Jürgen Gratze sold the student aid to the American company Sylvan Learning System. At this point in time, Schülerhilfe had 900 tutoring schools (700 franchised and 200 branches of its own). In 2009 the German private equity companies Paragon Partners (Munich) and Syntegra Capital (London) bought ZGS Bildungs-GmbH - a process that was critically commented on by experts. In autumn 2013, the new owners sold the company to Deutsche Beteiligungs AG . It sold it in 2017 for EUR 250 million to the British financial investor Oakley Capital . The Oakley Capital portfolio also includes the online dating agency Parship .
