A rocking device is a play device or gymnastics device that can be made to vibrate . Well-known rocking devices are the swing , often as a rocking horse , or the seesaw , a light beam with fastenings at the ends for holding, which is attached in its center to an upright stand and can be rotated vertically. A special form of seesaw is the sling board , which is particularly used in artistry . Other swing devices, such as the swing or suspension corner ( trapezoid ), the rings and swing rings hang freely on ropes or chains.

The bird's nest swing is a special form. It mostly hangs on a wooden frame and is attached to two chains , while the “nest” has four attachment points so that it does not move in all directions. In the "bird's nest" several children can swing together while sitting or standing and often have body contact, which in many cases also has therapeutic value and a social aspect.
