Sheikh Dyrri Tekke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sheikh Dyrri Tekke ( Albanian  Teqja e Sheh Dyrrit ) is a Tekke of the Sufi order of the Kadiri in Tirana , the capital of Albania . It is located in the Rruga e Barrikadave in the center of Tirana, northeast of Skanderbeg Square, right next to the Sami Frashëri Middle School .

The Tekke served not only as a place of worship, but also as the home of the sheikh and his family. Accordingly, the architectural style resembles a typical local residential building. It was built at the end of the 18th or the beginning of the 19th century. A small Türbe with three graves also belonged to the Tekke; this was destroyed in 1967 as part of the ban on religion in Albania. The closed limestone building, probably from the middle of the 19th century, was pentagonal and carried an octagonal drum .

Another Tekke of the Kadiri sect, which is small in Albania, the Tekke of Dervish Hatixhe , who is at least the same age , is in the immediate vicinity. There were other Tekken of the order in Berat , Elbasan , Peqin and Peshkopia .

The Tekke was declared a category 1 national cultural monument in 1963 - during the communist dictatorship in the People's Socialist Republic of Albania . Restoration work was carried out in 1964 and 1965.

After 1990 the building was restored. The Tekke is privately owned.
