Ship's balance
The Schiffsbalje is a body of water in the municipality of Friedeburg in the Wittmund district in northwestern Lower Saxony .
course
The Schiffbalje arises south of Marx , crosses under the federal road 437 and runs southeast past the Etzel cavern facility , crosses under the federal road 436 near the cavern facility and flows into the Friedeburger Tief at Hohemey . In the upper reaches the ship's balance is also called Bitze .
description
The Schiffsbalje and the Bitze are sand-shaped lowland streams. The catchment area of both bodies of water is predominantly characterized by grassland and arable land. The flow rate is very weak to almost stationary due to the slight gradient. There are no banks and the usable areas are often directly adjacent to the water. In the upper section there are individual trees along the banks, but without forming a closed frame of trees.
history
In November 2013, the ship's balance and the subsequent Friedeburg low were very heavily contaminated by an oil spill at the Etzel cavern facility.
