Marx is a town in East Frisia . The village has an area of 33.38 km² and belongs to the municipality of Friedeburg in the district of Wittmund . It is also the largest town in the municipality of Friedeburg in terms of area.
history
Marx was mentioned as Markese as early as 1435 .
Among the historical evidence include the St. Marcus Church from the 12th century, stone settings of the Frisian army way , stone remains of around 1300 founded monastery Hopels in the same state forest and the location of a 1,600 year old bog body in Hilgen Moor .
On July 1, 1972, the former communities Abickhafe , Dose , Hoheesche and Reepsholt merged to form the community Reepsholt. In the course of the municipal reform on August 16, 1972, the municipality Friedeburg was formed from the previous municipalities Bentstreek , Etzel , Friedeburg, Hesel , Horsten , Marx, Reepsholt, Wiesede and Wiesedermeer .
The place is rural. There is a glider airfield, a model airfield and a scout yard. The Black Sea nature reserve is located in the Barge district . Next to the church there is a Gulfhof listed as a monument .
