Ship launch at Gannarve
The approximately 29 m long ship setting at Gannarve is north of Fröjel , on the west coast of the Swedish island of Gotland .
From one of the longest ships on the island, near the coastal road, you have a wide view over the sea to the two islands of Lilla Karlsö and Stora Karlsö . Originally there was a second ship setting here. It fell victim to soil cultivation a long time ago. The existing ship was similarly threatened with destruction.
In the archaeological investigation in 1959 that were only Steven stones in their original positions found. Under the surface of the earth, dark gullies and pits were discovered in the gravel below , which indicated where the stones of the railing had been. Therefore the ship's setting could be restored with great accuracy. Newly set stones were marked on the inside in order to be able to distinguish them from the stones found in the original place. The ship settlements of this type can be dated to the younger Bronze Age .
