The description is a form of written or oral presentation . The German verb schildern is derived from painted descriptions on the shields of the Germanic peoples. The descriptions also include mood pictures and descriptions of the situation.

In a description, the author usually uses the present or the past tense , unless it is part of a story written in another time. Direct speech , comparisons and graphic embellishments can be found as further linguistic stylistic devices.
