Schiller Monument

The Schiller Monument in Munich is located on Maximiliansplatz and honors the German poet Friedrich Schiller . It is a bronze figure on a granite base with limestone steps.

history

The monument was commissioned by King Ludwig I and designed by Max von Widnmann . He used the Schiller bust of Johann Heinrich von Dannecker as a template for the head . The statue was cast by Ferdinand von Miller . The master stonemason Heinrich Blum created the pedestal from Untersberg marble. The memorial cost 12,320 guilders.

The monument was erected and unveiled on May 9, 1863. It was initially located on a green area between the confluence of Maximiliansplatz and Briennerstraße. In 1959 it was moved to the northeast end of the Maximiliansplatzanlagen.
