Wiki Loves Earth

Wiki Loves Earth is an international photo competition about natural monuments and nature reserves . It starts on May 1st and ends on May 31st each year. Some countries do not run the competition until June. Participants upload their photographs to Wikimedia Commons under a free license . The aim of the photo competition is to promote awareness of the protection of nature and to make the highest possible quality photographs of the objects worthy of protection usable not only in Wikipedia but for everyone. Wiki Loves Earth is a sister competition to the long-established Wiki Loves Monuments competition .
The first Wiki Loves Earth competition took place as a pilot project in 2013 in Ukraine . In the years that followed, the photo competition was expanded internationally to include other countries. In 2014, 16 countries took part. In 2015, the competition reached more than 8500 participants in 26 countries with over 100,000 photos submitted.
