Schimmelkirche Pichlwang
The so-called Schimmelkirche (actually: Andreaskirche ) is located on the B151 in the village of Pichlwang in the municipality of Lenzing in Upper Austria. It is a branch church of the Lenzing parish in the Schörfling deanery of the Linz diocese .
history
The Schimmelkirche in its current form was built around 1500. After the village has been mentioned in a document since the 7th century and this is also noted in the consecration certificate, there was a previous church at the same location. The church was consecrated on January 19, 1508 by Auxiliary Bishop Bernhard Meurl von Passau .
In the course of the Josephine church reform , the St. Andrew's Church came as a branch church from the parish Maria Schöndorf (Vöcklabruck) to the newly created parish Thalheim, which emerged from the abolition of the Oberthalheim monastery . At the Peace of Schönbrunn on October 14, 1809 the Ager became the border river between Austria and France and in 1810 it became Bavaria. Because this meant that the Protestants who lived on the left bank of the Ager and who belonged to the Rutzenmoos pastorate were without a church or pastor, the St. Andrew's Church was made available to them as a prayer house in 1812. At the Congress of Vienna , the old borders were restored. In 1825 the evangelical community Vöcklabruck / Pichlwang was dissolved and the church and the prayer house were closed. In 1843 the church came back into Catholic ownership. So it was a simultaneous church , a church used by both denominations. In the course of time this name was changed from the vernacular to the Schimmelkirche .
Say
According to a legend, the church got the name " Schimmelkirche " because a white horse was locked in the church during the Thirty Years' War . By eating the hemp rope of the bell, he made it ring and made himself noticeable.
Another legend tells that there is a secret passage from the Schimmelkirche under the altar, but this was never confirmed.
