The Battle of Waldstetten took place on September 1, 1449 during the Upper German City War.

The imperial city of Schwäbisch Gmünd was on the way home from Waldstetten , where it had destroyed the Rechberg castle on the Eichhölzle. According to chronic tradition, this was revenge for Ulrich von Rechberg stealing a herd of cattle from the city at the Waldstetter Tor the day before.

The Gmünder and their allies from Schwäbisch Hall were surprised by an army detachment of Count Ulrich von Württemberg rushing up from Göppingen . Over half of the approximately 600-strong contingent were killed or taken prisoner, and almost all of the valuable military equipment fell into the hands of the enemy. It is not known exactly where the meeting took place. Hermann Kissling suggested that the battle took place at what is now the Trinity Chapel near Gmünd.

The most important source is a letter from Gmünd to Nördlingen , handed down in the Nördlinger missives.
