Turnpike (hunting)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A turnpike or marten turnpike is part of a deadly turnpike trap . This was used to catch predatory game , especially martens . The animal is killed by a weighted "barrow" (stick) when it pulls a bait attached to the trap. Barrier traps were usually set up on known or preferred routes of the hunted game.

The barrier trap , like the club trap and the scissor trap , is forbidden in Germany due to animal welfare laws. Since the trap makes no difference between the now protected pine marten and the stone marten that can still be hunted, it does not meet today's requirements. A raccoon could also be caught without immediately fatal effect, as it would pull the bait with its front paws and a fatal catch above the chest is not guaranteed.
