The Bergzow lock is a lock structure in the village of Bergzow in Saxony-Anhalt .
description
The Bergzow lock is located in the Bergzower Altkanal , a federal waterway that is navigable underwater from the Elbe-Havel Canal up to the lock . In the upstream water , the old sewer has fallen dry and can no longer be navigated by watercraft.
The Bergzower Altkanal is part of the former Ihlekanal , built between 1865 and 1872 . The Bergzow lock enabled the ascent from the underwater of the Plauer Canal or the descent to it. When the Ihle Canal was expanded from 1883 to 1891, the lock was lengthened.
With the expansion of the Plauer and Ihle Canal from 1926 to 1938 into the Elbe-Havel Canal and the relocation of the course in parts, the Bergzower Altkanal was created. The single-chamber lock lost its function and operations were stopped. The miter gates of the lock have been removed.
