The lock Kade (formerly also lock Cade or Cader lock ) was a lock structure in the course of the Plauer Canal near the place Kade at the residential area Kader Schleuse in eastern Saxony-Anhalt . With the construction of the Elbe-Havel Canal , operations were stopped and the lock was later largely demolished.

description

From 1743 to 1745, by order of Frederick the Great, the Plauer Canal was laid between the Havel and the Elbe to shorten the shipping route between Berlin and Magdeburg and to develop the peat storage areas of the Fiener Bruch . It was one of the oldest canal structures in Prussia . In the course of the canal, three descent structures were built, next to the lock in Kade these were the old lock Parey and the lock Plaue . Between 1793 and 1794 the first wooden lock Kade was replaced by a solid brick structure. In the course of the expansion of the Plauer Canal from 1862 to 1866, the lock gates were renewed. During the second expansion from 1883 to 1891, a new lock was built north of the old one, so that ships according to Plauer Maß (65 meters by 8 meters) could pass. Since 1926 to 1938 the Plauer Canal and Ihle Canal were expanded to form the Elbe-Havel Canal and the Kade barrage was removed as part of this expansion, operations in Kade were discontinued after the new Wusterwitz lock was completed . The demolition took place in 1932.

The remains of the lock were placed on a notice board on the south bank of the Elbe-Havel Canal. There is also an outbuilding of the lock master’s house. There is also a wall on the north bank.
