Kraft Waentig

Kraft Waentig (born June 5, 1927 in Großhennersdorf ; † December 23, 2017 in Mainz ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

Kraft Waentig was born in Saxony as the son of a textile industrialist. As a 16-year-old high school graduate, he was hired as a flak helper , then was with the Reich Labor Service and finally with the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front . After the end of the war, he initially worked as a practical farmer, he repeated his Abitur in 1947 and subsequently studied agriculture at the University of Leipzig . Since he was refused a university career for political reasons after completing his studies as a qualified farmer, he fled to the Federal Republic in 1951, where he became active in the Corps Rheno-Nicaria in 1952 . After early management positions in the economy, among other things as district manager for large petrol stations at the Ludwigshafen branch of Deutsche Shell, he became managing partner of Waentig & Co. KG in Frankfurt-Hoechst, a hardware wholesaler in 1954 . In 1955 he founded a branch in Mainz, to which he moved the company headquarters in 1956. After the merger to form Bolte & Waentig GmbH & Co. KG in 1970, he continued to be the company's managing partner.

Waentig was a member of the board of the Association of German Hardware Stores (FDE) for many years and was chairman of the tools working group in the FDE. As a young entrepreneur, he was on the board of the Wirtschaftsjunioren for several years . Since 1978 in the plenary assembly of the IHK for Rheinhessen he was elected to the presidium in 1986. From 1988 to 1998 he was President of the IHK for Rheinhessen. Here he was particularly committed to promoting young people through professional qualifications. He also represented the expansion of the Mainzer Ring motorway section and the designation of commercial areas in Rheinhessen. In 1997 he played a key role in founding Mainz City Management , for which he still worked on a voluntary basis until 2006, nine years of which as chairman. Waentig was also a commercial judge . He belonged to the Broadcasting Council of the Südwestrundfunk, the Kulturfonds Mainzer Wirtschaft, the board of trustees of the Mainz University of Applied Sciences , the board of the Friends of Mainz University and the Great Council of the Gonsenheim Carneval Association .
