The Langwedel lock is a lock on the middle reaches of the Weser . It is located in the Lower Saxony municipality of Langwedel , in the district of Verden and belongs to the Langwedel barrage with a hydropower plant .
location
The Langwedel lock is located at river kilometer 329.4 or at kilometer 5.6 of the 8.5 km long Weser lock canal in the district of Cluvenhagen in the municipality of Langwedel . It is located between the upstream Dörverden lock and the downstream Bremen Weser locks . The Weser Lock Canal shortens the river loops of the Weser. With the construction of the canal from 1937, parts of the Alte Aller were filled in or diverted. The district of Hagen-Grinden has since been located on an island between the canal and the Weser and can be reached via three canal bridges.
business
The Langwedel lock is operated by the Verden Waterways and Shipping Office . Since September 2010, the lock has been remotely monitored and controlled by the remote control locks of the Minden Waterways and Shipping Authority. This means that no operating personnel is required on site. The operating hours of the Langwedel lock are from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
The lock was put into operation in July 1958 after a five-year construction period. The lock chamber has a usable length of 215 m, a usable width of 12.36 m and is 11.50 m deep. It has a maximum fall height of 5.5 m. The upper and lower gates are designed as double-leaf mortise gates with a bolted construction. In addition to barges , the lock is also used by pleasure boats .
Others
The lock was often cut off from the outside world during floods.
The Weser cycle path leads past the Langwedel lock . On the lock area there are information boards about how the lock works and a shelter.
