House at Schloßstraße 23 in Brühl

The building at Schloßstraße 23 in Brühl , a town in North Rhine-Westphalia between Cologne and Bonn in the Rhein-Erft district , was built in 1888. The house is a protected architectural monument .

history

Since the hotel rooms in Brühl were not enough for the onlookers during the emperor's visits to Augustusburg Palace, the Hotel Deutscher Kaiser was built in 1888 directly opposite the palace, on the site of the former electoral comedy house. The hotel was built with a dance hall and coffee garden. In 1919 the publisher of the Brühler Zeitung bought the building and set up a printing house in it , which existed until 1970. From 1981 the gallery at the castle of the Kreissparkasse Cologne was in the rooms. Today the building houses a shop and apartments.

description

The three-storey building in the historicism style has a mansard roof and a ground floor extension that originally served as a coffee garden. The sloping corner of the house is emphasized on the first floor by a triangular gable that rests on columns . This narrow, single-axis corner facade is framed by two pilasters . A cornice runs below the roof approach . The windows have stone frames and a narrow window canopy on the first floor .
