The Aigremont Castle ( French Château d'Aigremont ) is located in the village of Awirs the municipality of Flémalle on a rocky ridge 80 meters above the Meuse .

Aigremont was first mentioned around the year 900. In the Middle Ages it was a large fortification and also served as a refuge for many opponents of the prince-bishops of Liège , such as William I of the Mark in 1468. Archdeacon Mathias Clercx acquired the property from the von der Mark family and built it between 1717 and 1727 the classicist castle that exists today .
