The Almerswind castle is in the district Almerswind the community Schalkau in district Sonneberg in Thuringia .

history

The almost square three-storey building with a hipped roof and a polygonal stair tower on the south side was first mentioned in the 13th century.

On July 3 and 4, 1635, imperial regiments raged in and around the castle and devastated the castle. In the 16th century, the lords of Schaumburg zu Rauenstein owned the property.

Around 1700, the palace was rebuilt using older parts.

The Uttenhoven family followed as owners in 1787, Mrs. von Enkevorth in 1891 and, until 1945, Barons von Erffa and von Bergmann-Korn. It was expropriated according to the land reform laws common in East Germany .

From 1945 to 2001 the community used the house as an office and kindergarten . The community did a lot to maintain the house's value. The stairwell was repaired and the culture hall furnished.

In 2001, Bodo Baron von Hoyningen-Huene acquired the property, which was renovated from 1990 to 1991.
