Tower ruins of the castle

The tower ruins of Altkemnitz Castle ( Polish: Zamek w Starej Kamienicy ), is located in Stara Kamienica (German Altkemnitz , also Alt Kemnitz ) in the powiat Jeleniogórski ( Hirschberg ), in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland.

history

The place Altkemnitz was an old ancestral seat of the von Schaffgotsch , who probably already owned a castle on the Kemnitzer Bach in 1243. From 1562 a four-wing renaissance castle was built. After a fire, the castle was rebuilt in 1616. After the Count was executed in 1635 following the murder of Wallensteins , the castle passed to Nikolaus von Palffy. From 1758 the former cavalier's house served as a residence, as the rest of the castle was destroyed by fire.

After the Germans were expelled, a state estate was established. The castle burned down in 1953, but many Renaissance buildings were still used by an agricultural production cooperative. After 2000, all buildings except for the tower ruins were demolished.
