Irving Romaro Calkins (born October 31, 1875 in Palmer , † August 26, 1958 in Springfield ) was an American sports marksman .
successes
Irving Calkins took part in the 1908 Olympic Games in London in part in two competitions. In the individual competition with the free pistol , he took eighth place with 457 points. In the team competition, he took first place together with James Gorman , John Dietz and Charles Axtell . With 1914 points, the Americans asserted themselves in front of the Belgian and British teams and became Olympic champions . Calkins was the team's second best shooter with 473 points.
In addition to his athletic career, Calkins served as President of the US Revolver Association . He was also enthusiastic about magic and served as President of the Society of American Magicians from 1936 to 1937 . Calkins earned his living as a doctor. He practiced as a surgeon in his hometown of Springfield , Massachusetts for over 50 years .
