Charles Sumner Axtell (born January 29, 1859 in Hyannis , † November 24, 1932 in Springfield ) was an American sports marksman .
successes
Charles Axtell took part in the 1908 Olympic Games in London in part in two competitions. In the individual competition with the free pistol , he took fourth place with 480 points and narrowly missed winning a medal. In the team competition, he took first place together with James Gorman , John Dietz and Irving Calkins . With 1914 points, the Americans asserted themselves in front of the Belgian and British teams and became Olympic champions . Axtell was the team's weakest shooter with 468 points.
Axtell was a co-founder of the US Revolver Association , of which he was president from 1911 to 1913.
