Annabichl Castle with terrace garden (2006)

The Annabichl Castle is located in the north of the city of Klagenfurt in the district Annabichl , which is named after the castle. The east-facing main facade looks out from a 30-meter-high hill over Sankt Veiter Straße, an important Klagenfurt access road from the north.

Building history

It was built by Georg von Khevenhüller for his second wife Anna between 1580 and 1587 . The facade was baroque in 1755 .

description

The name is derived from Annabichl Castle, which Georg Khevenhüller had built for his second wife Anna in 1580. It is a three-story building with five window axes to the east. This facade is elaborately designed, the west facades, on the other hand, very simple.

To the south of it is a baroque chapel dedicated to St. Anne. It was built after 1774.

The castle has a historic terrace garden that extends to St. Veiter Straße. Originally, the garden extended even further to the east.
