Bietschied Castle

Bietschied Castle (also: Bietschieder Schlösschen ) is a former manor house near Heusweiler . It is a listed building.

history

The place Bietschied was first mentioned in 1373 as Butscheit and belonged to the knight Reiner von Honecken. From 1527 the hamlet belonged to the county of Nassau-Saarbrücken .

In 1743 Conrad Wahlster had a courtyard built on the site where the castle stands today. His grandson Heinrich Wahlster, a rich timber merchant and mayor of Heusweiler, had the estate demolished in 1810 and a mansion built. Inside he had the house richly decorated with stucco by Joseph Beunat . Wahlster's daughter Heliane had gardens laid out around the house and bequeathed the property to her niece Eugenie. Her husband Emil Nikolaus Jakob Krezzer became so indebted because of his lavish lifestyle that he had to sell the property to the Dilsburg mine, whereby Bietschied Castle came into the possession of the Prussian mining treasury in 1896 . As a result, it was used by the director of the mine, Fahrsteiger Friederich Wahlmann, as an official residence. During the First World War, the building was the seat of the military command. In 1920 the French took over the mine supervision and with it the castle. Next, the Reich Labor Service moved in with a household school for women. In the 1930s, two axes were added and the entrance moved from the center.

During the French campaign it became a military hostel again. The building stood empty from 1944 until the end of the war. After the Second World War , citizens were billeted because of the housing shortage. In 1948 the castle became a rest home for children from mining families, and in 1952 it was expanded into a rehabilitation center for accident-injured miners. In 1965 the interior was extensively restored. In January 2004, the then Federal Miners' Union took over the operation of the facility from Deutsche Steinkohle AG as the insurance carrier . Until September 2014, the little castle served as an orthopedic-traumatological rehabilitation clinic .

architecture

The classicist manor house with eleven axes is a plastered two-story quarry stone building with a slated gable roof . The windows on the ground floor are fitted with wrought iron bars. The interior was adapted to the needs of the clinic, but the rich stucco is preserved, which forms a console frieze with egg rod , rosettes , palmettes and acanthus tendrils between the wall and ceiling and the fluted pilasters with Corinthian capitals that structure the walls and doors. An old wooden staircase with a richly decorated railing has also been preserved.
