Blumau Castle
The Blumau castle was in the same district of the municipality Altenfelden in Rohrbach District of Upper Austria (approximately 250 m south of Altenfelden in the village Blumau).
history
The moated castle and its owner Heinrich Stadler von Stadlkirchen were first mentioned in 1344 . The Stadler remained in the possession of Blumau until 1404. He was succeeded in 1411 by Thomas Rasp, followed by Erhart Küffner (Chuffnaig) and then Simon. Ruland Pabenöder was owned by Blumau in 1479. From the end of the 15th to the middle of the 16th century, Blumau was owned by Bernhard Stadler († 1559, buried in Kirchberg near Thening). Blumau now passed to the Hohenecker family. Regina von Hoheneck brought Blumau into her marriage to Georg Neuhauser as a marriage asset. This was followed by the Dorffner: in 1602 Ursula, the widow of Friedrich the Dorffner, is proven. In 1611 Karl acquired Baron von Jörger Pürnstein and Blumau. The Jörger united these possessions with Liebenstein . Since the Jörger were Protestants , their property was confiscated in the course of the Counter Reformation . The rule of Pürnstein came to the bishopric of Passau , which had previously had fiefdom over it.
After secularization in 1803, Blumau fell to the imperial court chamber. The castle, which was already in disrepair, was sold to a farmer, namely to the owner of the Meierhof, which had been inherited for a long time . The current owner is the farmer Gahleitner.
Blumau Castle then and now
As can be seen in the engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1674, Blumau was a three-storey, well-fortified moated castle, the surrounding moat was fortified with stones. A (train) bridge led to the castle. A small courtyard can be seen, as well as a bay window on the main building and a double arched window. The building is covered with a hipped roof. Outside the castle is protected by a picket fence, which is closed by a gate. Farm buildings can also be seen next to it.
Today there is still a large barn and a wagon shed on the castle hill in Blumau, which were probably built on the walls of the castle. The location of the castle can be assumed in a depression next to it.
