description

Bussy-Rabutin Castle was initially built as a fortified complex, but with the beginning of the Renaissance it was expanded to become more and more homely and is therefore a Renaissance castle. In 1602 it came into the possession of the Rabutin family, who sold it again in 1733. The towers come from a castle-like structure from the 15th century. The moats, which were renewed in the 17th century, were originally to be crossed with drawbridges . After 1520, the side wings of the building were rebuilt, the conical roofs were added in the 17th century. On the ground floor of the wing buildings, arcades form an open gallery with basket arches . The main building, completed in 1649, is located between the rear towers. The interior of the castle is adorned with numerous portraits of famous historical figures, the highlight is the cabinet in the Tour dorée (golden tower) from the 17th century.

Furthermore, the castle includes an extensive garden area. On the other side of the valley you can see the village of Bussy-le-Grand. The complex was designed by the French garden architect André Le Nôtre based on the garden of the Palace of Versailles . A deciduous forest and a terraced park surround the castle. The outdoor facilities cover a total of 34 hectares and have been surrounded by a wall since the beginning of the 19th century.
