The Castle Differdange is a castle in the same community in the south of Luxembourg . It serves as the European branch of Miami University and houses the John E. Dolibois European Campus.

history

According to a source from 1310, the foundation stone was laid by a brother of the Knight von Zolwer , who built a castle on the site of today's castle. In 1400 his family died out. After that there were different owners before the castle burned down in 1552.

In 1577 the building was rebuilt as a Renaissance palace by Anne von Isembourg . A moat was built and loopholes were built in. In the following centuries the castle changed hands several times before it went to the de Cressac family in the middle of the 19th century. Their heirs sold the castle in 1914 to the German-Luxembourgish Mining and Hütten AG and has since been owned by the companies that operate or operate the Differdinger Schmelz ( Hadir , Arbed , Arcelor . Today: Arcelor Mittal ). The castle was converted into a casino by the Hadir in order to receive high-ranking guests.

Since 1997, the castle has been rented by Miami University , which uses the site as a branch office and campus.
