J. Christoph Bürkle

Johann Christoph Bürkle (* 1954 in Hamburg ) is a German art historian , architecture critic , author and publishing director.

biography

After training as a photographer, J. Christoph Bürkle studied art history in Hamburg and Munich and received his doctorate in 1985 with Martin Warnke on Hans Scharoun . From 1985 to 1989 he was a lecturer and lecturer at the University of Hamburg and at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, from 1989 to 1995 he worked as a senior assistant at the ETH Zurich at Werner Oechslin's chair for the history of art and architecture .

From 1995 to 2012 J. Christoph Bürkle was the head of Niggli Verlag , editor-in-chief of the architecture magazine archithese and, until 2007, also publisher of the cultural magazine du . He is a member of the Association of Swiss Architects (BSA), was President of the Zurich Architecture Forum (until 2018) and has been a lecturer in architectural history and architectural theory at the University of Liechtenstein since 2002 . He has published numerous books on architecture topics and regularly writes articles in the specialist and daily press. He lives in Zurich .
