The Dorst Castle (also mansion Dorst) is located in Calvörder district Dorst . The listed building is at Dorfstrasse 8 and is in the center of the village.

Architecture and history

The previous building was built in 1863. The current building was built between 1922 and 1923 under the then landowners Paul and Margarete Fischer. The building is of unusual dimensions and also of unusual architectural quality and is therefore unique in the Börde district . It is two-storey and is characterized by a clinker brick architecture , a substructure floor , a north side as a display facade with round towers reminiscent of castle architecture, an access ramp and an outside staircase . The palace also has a high-quality outside staircase on the south-facing park side. In addition, the building has been upgraded with figurative decorations, on the eaves on the north side at the approach of the baroque mansard roof there are six sculptures of peasants at work, the lamps to the side of the north flight of stairs are decorated with animal sculptures, underneath there is a mutton as an indication of the former function of the village as a sheep pasture. The gothic entrance hall inside has several colored windows, especially in the hunting room of the eastern round tower there are several heaped up.

The park , which is rudimentary, is a testament to the architecture from the 1920s, in an idiosyncratic mixture of New Objectivity , Expressionism and Neo-Gothic .

Next to the building is the old Dorster pigeon tower from the mid-19th century.

Present function

Until December 31, 2009, the building was the seat of the former municipality of Dorst, which then became part of the municipality of Calvörde. Today you can tour the castle and celebrate in the hall.
