The Castel Sant'Angelo Castle is the name of a former moated castle , which in Guelders village Herwijnen was.

history

Engelenburg was first mentioned in a document in 1468. The first owner was Johan Johansz van Herwijnen who was enfeoffed by the Duke of Geldern , Adolf von Egmond , with een huys ende voorgeborcht, met sijnen cingel, gheiten Engelborch and various other goods at Herwijnen. Subsequently, Schloss und Herrlichkeit Engelenburg came into the possession of Gijsbert van Herwijnen , who sold it to Reinier van Bern and Merel van Rossum in 1522 . Afterwards the fiefdom was split up: Reinier bequeathed his share to Dirk von Plettenberg , the other part passed into the hands of Merel van Rossum's son Walraven van Gent. Walvaren's son Johan van Gent inherited the property from his mother Elisabet van Raesfeld . Johan's son Wilhelm van Gent sold the entire property to Pieter Dircksz Graeff in 1620 . He bequeathed Engelenburg to his nephew Jacob Bicker in 1643 . In 1647 he was inherited by his brother Andries Bicker , in whose family the complex remained. In 1677 it came to Ernest Jacob de Petersen . In 1700 the castle came into the hands of Friedrich Adolf zur Lippe-Detmold , who passed it on to Adriaen Bout. In 1723 Petrus Bierman became the new owner. His family were the last owners of the Engelenburg which was demolished in 1817.
