Fayrac Castle

The Fayrac Castle is located on the Dordogne in the French community Castelnaud-la-Chapelle in the Dordogne . From Castelnaud it is only one kilometer to the 15th and 16th century complex that was the French counterpart to Beynac Castle on the other side of the river during the Hundred Years War . The castle is in private hands and cannot be visited.

Fayrac Castle was built on a small hill. Three wings surround a high courtyard, which is protected on its open side by a wall. On the river side, two massive towers give the structure the appearance of a medieval defense system. The other two wings, on the other hand, have generous windows and show the Renaissance style with their tin towers . During the restoration carried out in the 19th century, a replica of a medieval donjon was built. Until 1928 the chateau was owned by the composer Fernand de La Tombelle (1854–1928). Its extensive music library is still in one of the tower rooms today, as is its Érard wing.
