Charles William Fulton (* 24. August 1853 in Lima , Ohio ; † 27. January 1918 in Portland , Oregon ) was an American politician of the Republican Party , of the state of Oregon in the US Senate represented.

Life

Ohio-born Fulton was a young child when his parents moved him to Iowa in 1855 , where the family settled in Magnolia . There his younger brother Elmer was born, who later belonged to the US House of Representatives for Oklahoma .

After attending school, he studied law , was admitted to the bar in 1875 and began to practice as a lawyer . That same year he moved to Astoria, Oregon.

Public offices

His political career began in Oregon. In 1878 he was elected to the State Senate for the Republicans ; the voters confirmed him several times in this mandate. In 1893 and 1901 he was President of the Senate. From 1880 to 1882 he worked as a public prosecutor in Astoria.

In 1903 Charles Fulton was elected to the US Senate, where he remained until 1909; he was denied re-election. In the Senate, he was Chairman of the Committee on Relations with Canada ; he was also a member of the Petitions Committee.

After his political career, he worked again as a lawyer in Portland.
