The gate castle stands in the southeast of the historic center of the municipality of Retz in the district of Hollabrunn in Lower Austria . The castle is a listed building .

history

The original Althof Castle in the northwest corner of the city fortifications of Retz was destroyed by the Hussites (Taborites) in 1425/1427 . In the southeast corner of the city fortifications, there was initially a meierhof , which was expanded into a Gothic city ​​castle in the late 15th century with the burgrave and city governor Nikolaus Bethlen .

The building is a square with an approximately square inner courtyard. The southern main front has three storeys .
