history

The Gieboldehausen Castle

The castle in Gieboldehausen arose from a former Burgmann's seat of Castle Gieboldehausen , called "House on the Wall". Several castle men were responsible for securing the castle and office, but they did not live in the castle, but had their own castle mansion. Up to eight Burgmann's seats are known, which were laid out around the village in such a way that they formed a defense system together with the historic village fortifications made of ramparts and moats.

A small medieval castle complex with a square tower, which was surrounded by a moat, is assumed to be the predecessor. From when the lords of Minnigerode were employed as castle men in Gieboldehausen is not exactly known, in 1410 a Hans von Minnigerode was already mentioned. In 1502 Hans von Minnigerode the Younger acquired the Burgmann's seat on the Wall from a Hans von Brudenhusen. From around 1520 he rebuilt the castle seat and built two half-timbered floors on the stone foundation walls. From 1521 to 1532 Hans von Minnigerode was bailiff of the office of Gieboldehausen .

Today's castle was then the manor house of a larger estate, the necessary farm buildings (stables and barns) were right next to it. The castle seat included numerous farms and lands in Gieboldehausen as well as surrounding villages with their tithe and income, a mill and hunting justice.

In 1970 the entrance to the courtyard and the outbuildings were demolished, and the von Minnigerode family finally sold the castle to the community of Gieboldehausen in 1986. They renovated the building from 1988 to 1918, and today it is where the Gieboldehausen registry office is located.

Park

To the southeast of the castle between the Hahle and its tributary Suhle , Hilmar von Minnigerode created a park with a small pond for his wife from 1873 onwards. He planted rare trees such as black pines, false cypresses and a ginkgo tree. The park was initially fenced in and not open to the public. Today the castle and the adjoining park serve residents and visitors as a place of recreation and leisure. A playground has been set up for children.
